Monadnock Speedway Final Race Day of 2007 - September
22nd Monadnock Speedway rounded out the 2007 race season with a fun-filled race day on September 22, 2007. School buses rolled out treating the fans and youth in attendance to a ride on track and through the pits. Competition for the evening included a big wheel race for the youth and the exciting and much anticipated annual school bus race with 4 of Monadnock’s best drivers behind the wheel. Those with the nerve to bring their own streetcars out onto the track also competed. Mini Stock Division opened official racing for the day with a field of 21 cars competing. Emerson Cayer in the #88 was declared unofficial winner closely followed by #27 Derek Bergquist and #94 Brandon Warren. Next up was the Super Stocks with a field of twelve. The race was heated with Steve Bly in the #10 taking down the win followed by #18 Ken Springer in his flying red fireball and #63 Bob Bedaw a heavy competitor in previous seasons. The Late Models thundered onto the track with twenty cars revved and ready to compete. It was a nail biting race with #24 Scott Zilinski taking the win, #1 Aaron Fellows in a second place finish and #11 Ed Brehio placing third. Who else could do justice to ending such a fine day but the infamous Enduros. They were just great. Twenty-one full-size Enduros were first out. Bumping and banging their way to the front it was difficult to tell where the field started and ended. The unofficial finish top three were #8 Jeff Kirley, #19 Dan Yagmin and #64 Mark Rosenblatt, in that order. The day was concluded with a field of thirty-nine 4-cylinder Enduros competing in what seemed like an endless amount of laps. They twirled, bounced of the walls and each other. They pulled into the infield for a lap or two, only to return to the track to compete once again. Clusters of cars piled into each other, steaming and rolling away with tireless wheel rims. It was all awesome. The drivers maneuvered their cars around or out of whatever situation they got into. There were no yellows; a couple of reds but the race went on. There were no temper flares or at least none that were obvious. The cars that did drop out of the race descended onto the grassed infield and the drivers congregated on the platform to root their division on. The race had a lot of spirit. It was a lot of fun to watch. The #69 of Louis Maher came in first, #62 Dick Houle second and #101 Adam Houle third. The entire event was entertaining and memorable. Sadly, the 2007 race season is over at the fast quarter mile track, New Hampshire’s Monadnock Speedway. |
