Donny Lia,
from Merrick New York, is a multi-talented, multi-facetted driver on the move with the
Whelen Modified Tour. Donny and the #18 Modified Tour team had 19 starts this 2005 season
with 2 wins to their favor.
Put Donny in a car, any car, any racing division, and he will do the car and team justice.
A clear example is September 05 at New Hampshire International Speedway when Lia ran both
the Busch North Series and Whelen Modified Touring Division at New Hampshire International
Speedway. He was on the lead lap in his Busch North debut when the car blew an engine. In
the Mod race, he finished a strong 8th.
His record tells it all. Donny Lia raced Legend Cars throughout the United States in 99
and 2000 with 5 wins between two tracks finishing 3rd in points at Riverhead Raceway and
was awarded Rookie of the Year. By the end of Lias first racing season
he had collected a checkered flag in the biggest event of the Legends season when he won
The Legends portion of prestigious Turkey Derby at the New Jersey Speedplant.
The 2001 racing season found Lia in the Riverhead Modified Division with 1 pole, 2 wins
and a Rookie of the Year award. It only gets better. Lia raced the Limited FMS
Riverhead schedule in 2002 and on to the Nascar Featherlite Modified Series for the 2003
season. The Lia star shines brightly in this series. His first season brought 2 starts on
the pole, 1 win and yet another Rookie of the Year. Lia stepped-up his pace in
the 2004 season collecting five poles and the very prestigious Bud Pole Award. In
conjunction with the Modified Tour, Lia won on the Race of Champions Modified Tour and
grabbed the second-annual North-South Shoot-out at Concord Motorsports Park, North
Carolina 2004.
The addition of the SK Modified Division at Stafford Motor Speedway to Lias
repertoire for the 2005 season has continued to enhance his racing career. Lia
demonstrated his professionalism with an August win, five top fives and thirteen top ten
finishes in that division.
With the good possibility of many many racing seasons to look forward to, Donny Lia, at
age twenty-six, is a driver to look at and for. |
