Randy Bell
Jimmy Fund Division #30

Winning means different things to different people. For those drivers and teams in the Jimmy Fund Division at New Hampshire’s Monadnock Speedway winning is about giving, not receiving. Yes, there are trophies but the checkered flag winners give the trophy to a youth from the grandstands. Randy Bell, from Harrington CT, is just one of those Jimmy Fund racers at Monadnock Speedway. His love of racing and desire to raise money for a great cause is the attraction to this unique division for Randy and his #30 team. The racing cost is low in the Jimmy Fund Division and the rules are few, basically tire size and safety equipment restrictions. There are no radios or such non-essentials and no purse but there is great racing fun and experience, friendship and camaraderie.

Randy is an experienced racer with 14 racing seasons behind him. His racing divisions have varied from Figure 8 to ½ Ton Trucks to 4-Cylinders at the now defunct Riverside Park Speedway. The Jimmy Fund Division reaps many rewards for Randy. He is especially appreciative of fellow teams like those of Steve Fifield that donate their used tires to his division.

With an abundance of enthusiasm, Randy is quite sincere in his quest to support the Jimmy Fund and to build support for the Jimmy Fund Auto Racing Division. This September, Ronald W. Knoll of the Massachusetts Lancaster Police (a nine member force) presented Randy with a donation of $200.00 for the Jimmy Fund.

Randy would like to build his division and increase the competition within the Jimmy Fund Division. Those interested race enthusiasts, drivers, teams with limited funds and unlimited desire to race for a good cause can contacted him through Monadnock Speedway or on the Jimmy Fund Web Site.

Allen Coates
Waterford Late Model #90

Connecticut’s Waterford Speedbowl is home track to Allen Coates and the #90 Late Model team. A 16-year racing veteran, Allen has several notable achievements under his belt. There were Championships at “The Bowl” in 1996 Super Sport, 1998, 2001 and 2002 Late Model. The #90 team was 2002 New England Regional Short Track Champions and winner of the “Funk Master Flex Race” with a $10,000. Purse and 69 Camaro for the winner.

Racing suites Allen’s competitive personality. The final race in 2001 is typical of the challenge Allen enjoys. He and Phil Rondeau were in competition for the championship. Allen had to finish at least one place ahead of Phil in that very last race for the title. The pressure was on and Allen finished ahead of Phil, taking the champion title.

Says Allen “Waterford is a great track with close, intense racing.” He is often humbled by the competition at his home track
