At
age 32, Mark Sammut has spent 74% of his life involved in racing. That is an amazing fact
yet one that is not uncommon in racing. Racing is a big-time family sport that generates
long-term commitment.
This high-profile driver got his start in Go Karts. Mark says One of the reasons I
race is the challenge to keep doing better. He started his upward move after several
Kart Club Championships.
Midgets was the second division Mark raced in, the second step of his racing career.
Certainly his record speaks for itself. In 1996, Mark won the CanAm Midget Championship
and was awarded Four Score Fan Club Driver of the Year. In 1997 and 98, Mark was the
Niagra Midget Champion. Mark had 22 feature win while in the Midget Division. The most
challenging race in Marks career, thus far, was a Midget feature when Mark had to
pass the 6-time Champion, on the last lap of the last race of the year, to win the 1996
Championship. An experience like that must stick-out in ones memory.
ISMAs Supermodifieds, is home for Mark these days. Though a 7th in points finish for
the 2004 season was great, Marks goal is to improve on that this season. His
strongest competitor in the Supers is the #11, Chris Perely. Mark finished
both the 2003 and 04 seasons in ISMAs top 10 , was voted the 2003 Most
Improved Driver and won the 2004 AJ Michaels Memorial Award.
ISMA is a touring division. Check out their web site www.ismasupers.com
for future race dates. Keep a watch on that young man from Canada, #78, Mark Sammut. |
