Glenn Boss

 Thompson Limited Sportsman#3

Glenn Boss likens to Bruce Springstein “the Boss”; great at what he does, memorable. Glen Boss races #3 in the Limited Sportsman Division at Thompson International Speedway. He is quite the Champ, with back-to-back Championships at both the Waterford and Thompson tracks in 1992 and 1993. It doesn’t stop there for Glen had three more Championship seasons at Thompson in 1996, 97 and 2003.

Could any race be a challenge for a driver like Glen? Well yes, “every race is a challenge” per Glenn. One of the most memorable was a 1996 race that he and Scott Bronczyk battled for the lead 40 solid laps of a 50 lap feature. That was a challenge. It is the adrenaline rush, the noise, and the smell of the track that keeps Glenn behind the wheel of a racecar. Glenn was in a bad crash in 2002, air lifted out but the hard part, as he recalled, was the 5 weeks he had to sit-out of racing without the rush, the smell or the noise.

Glenn is employed by Petro Oil, also his main sponsor. He resides in Danielson Connecticut and enjoys motorcycles and camping for pleasure.

Walt Hovey Jr.

Waterford Sportsman #16

Walt Hovey Jr. is the man behind the wheel of Sportsman Division #16 at Waterford Speedbowl Connecticut and is 13th in points, early September 2004. He is supported by teammates Maggie Knapp, Christina Miller, Shelby Macalpine and Rick Knapp in his 17 starts, 2 top 5’s and 8 top 10 finishes this season, thus far. The team has had 3 wins in previous seasons at “The Bowl” and a second place finish in 2003. The #16 Team was awarded “Crew of the Year at Waterford.

A Union Carpenter by trade, Walt races for the competitiveness. His most challenging race was his 2nd win. It was a race in which he battled with Keith Rocco, doing a lot of banging with Walt running on the outside for most of the race. Those races just stick with you.
Walt was introduced into racing at an early age as his Grandfather and Uncle both raced in Modified Divisions. Walt, at age 28, has been racing for 7 years. Though he loves racing, he would like to see parity among track rules.

This Scotland Connecticut resident in his blue Chevrolet Monte Carlo sponsored by Chris’ Automotive, T.Y.P.E.S. and Critical Signs & Graphics is a driver to cheer for.
