It isn’t the money but the thrill and enjoyment that attracts Matthew
O’Brien to racing. Matthew has been with the North East Midget
Association 14 years. He races #16. His Dad, Jim O’Brien, is the main
race influence in his life, the owner of his racecar and his race team.
The most memorable race for Matt was his first. It seemed he had waited
a lifetime for that moment and it was uphill from there.
This young man has talent, he won the Pat Thibadeau Memorial Award in
1990, the Joe Csiki Memorial Award in 1991, placed in the top ten
Championship Points 3 times and has finished first in numerous heat
races. Says Matt “The learning curve was difficult and after 14 years I
am still learning.”
Matthew is an Architect by trade and resides in Wilmington, Mass. He
travels with the NEMA racing division and enjoys racing at Seekonk
because it is the most fun.
