“Nice
Guys” don’t always finish last. A perfect example is Dave Sylvia who
races in the Mini Stock Division at Waterford Speedbowl. On May 8, 2004,
Dave raced to victory lane in a 20-lap feature race.
This was his second feature win, the first being on April 20, 2002,
again at Waterford Speedbowl. That particular race is especially
memorable for Dave as he beat out a 12- year race veteran after 3
restarts. Dave is good. He has 50 top tens and has placed first in 15
(or more) qualifying heats during his four seasons of racing.
Dave is a cancer survivor and took up racing to fulfill one of his
long-time dreams. With both sons (Ryan and Bill) on his crew, racing is
a family sport. Good friends, Garett, Jack and Mark, round out his crew.
Dave would like to see the racing industry put some controls on entry
fees. The cost makes it difficult for the every-day type of guy to race.
This Groton, Connecticut resident works at Electric Boat and enjoys
fishing and family activities with his wife and children. With his son
by his side at a recent race, it was easy to see the pride and loyalty
shared on this team for Mini Stock #88 and for each other.
