| Sister race drivers are
not the usual, but at Stafford Motor Speedway there is such a pair. Stacey and Danielle
Botticello both race in the Dare Stock Division. Twenty-three year old Stacey races the #18 and is the more experienced. She has been on the scene for seven years with multiple wins and two "Most Popular Driver" awards. In fact, Stacey was the first female to wini a Dare Stock race at Stafford. Stacey also raced in the American Race Truck division for one year at both Thompson and Seekonk speedways. Her first season racing was her toughest. Proving herself to the guys was a challenge. They continually tried to bump her and turn her around, but she has come out on top with two wins in a row during the 2003 season. Stacey finds herself being protective of sister Danielle during a race, though not during a practice. Nineteen-year old Danielle has been racing for two years. She too holds her own in Dare Stock #28. She did experience a frightful accident early in her racing career but came out unharmed and returned to the track the following week. The girls' dad is the catalyst of their racing careers. He is a former race driver and a large part of their support system. Both Stacey and Danielle would like to see more female on the track with more recognition from NASCAR. Photographer/Journalist: Sheila Somers |
