Fred LeVangie

New England Antique Racers (NEAR)

Fred LeVangie races NEAR car #41ma. This dignified blue and yellow 36 Ford Coupe was home built. One reason Fred chose to restore this particular racecar is that it was a popular racing model and was not represented in NEAR. It is an exact replica of a racecar Joe Brady owned back in its day. New England Antique Racers have firm car specifications such as it must represent a race car that ran any time 1979 or before and engines must be consistent with the type engine that was used in the original car and body.

The challenge with this NEAR racecar is finding the old parts. The car is pretty much original. This is Fred’s first season with Near but not first to the racing industry. Fred was on Joe Brady’s Modified Tour crew for 30 years. He anticipates racing 20 times this season. Fred’s crew and advice team for his NEAR car is Andy Peak and Adam Nevins. Fred owns the car, races it and maintains it all while owning and operating an Auto Repair Shop in West Bridgewater, Mass. Fred grew-up with these now- antique racecars at Norwood Arena. Antique racing is a rewarding thing to do as your racing career winds down.
