| Do racecar drivers ever get scared or panic?
Soft-spoken Howie Brode races car#96 on the Modified Tour. At a race in Fleming New
Jersey, he was pushed into the fence and his racecar was destroyed. He wasnt
frightened until he got out and saw the car. His wife and Mom worry about him racing all
the time but Howie doesnt. Racing is FUN to Howie. Howie has been racing 10 years and has won one Modified Championship at Riverhead in 1998. He is a good consistent driver. He recalls his most challenging race as a Thompson Speedway 300. It was a long race on a hot day with tough competition. He had 3 pit stops and finished 10th. Howie races twice a week and spends unlimited hours working on his racecar. It all depends on what the car needs after the last race. Boating is Howies hobby. He also owns a Towing Business in Bayshore, New York. He has always been employed in the automotive field, specifically towing. His racing career began after he towed a racecar to the track. He once raced as a favor to Paul Galvin and caught the racing bug. So goes the racing story. Photographer/Journalist: Sheila Somers |
